“Steel isn’t permanent. Steel is organic”

The world is constructed upon various things- many of which go unnoticed. When have you stopped to digest the things that revolve around you…the things that make up the world you live in.

Downtown is known for its historic attributes and diverse community although these can be factors only known to recognize the people of Los Angeles they are also descriptions of the buildings constructing it. Many of the buildings in Downtown are historical and carry a lot of the culture’s sacredness but recently a lot of newer styles and architects have developed history for present generations.

One architect in particular is recognized and very well-known due to his fearless behavior when breaking down borders and expressing architecture in a free and open way. Frank Gehry is known for multiple pieces located all over the global but here in L.A he is known for the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

The building's design began in 1999 and was completed in 2003. The building was first funded by Lilian Disney (wife of Walt Disney) in honor of her husband. The construction and progress had to be stopped but was later funded by campaigns. Although it is mostly recognized by its exterior the building holds a delicate beauty within. The structure within is intimate. The audience sits right next to the orchestra and creates a 360 view for all. From the outside, most people compare the building’s structure to the organic shape of water yet it’s concentration is on the composition of musical movement but also the movement of the city as a whole.
